Dear Church Family,
On Tuesday, 26 May, the FBC Coronavirus Response Team made a decision to continue the
suspension of in-person worship services and activities in the church building for the month of June.
This decision was made after much prayer and discussion, and comes out of a love for the Lord and his people. Many in our church are vulnerable to this virus. We want to be examples of what it looks like to follow Jesus and care for the health and safety of others—both in our church and in our community.
During the meeting, we also made solid plans for how we will reopened when we have discerned the time is right. We will rejoice and praise God to be back “in person,” but will also maintain good health and safety practices. More will be said about these plans as the time draws near.
In the meantime, here are a few ways you can connect with your church family:
— Continue to send your tithes and offerings to the church. Even though the church is currently serving God in a different way, your financial support continues to help the work of the Kingdom to carry on. We continue to organize online gatherings and create connections during these often lonely times. Youngchurch is still meeting via Zoom every Wednesday night. HOPE continues to distribute food to people who are in need. Your support is vital right now. Checks can be mailed to: First Baptist Church of Oregon City, P.O. Box 1686, Oregon City, OR, 97045.
— We are releasing a worship podcast every Sunday morning around 1 a.m. Whenever you wake up on Sunday, there will be an opportunity for you to hear God’s word, pray, and sing along with your church family. It’s also easily shared with friends and neighbors. Here are links that will work on your phone or computer for the podcast:
If you or someone you know are having difficulties listening to the podcast, or to request a CD, please contact the church at email@example.com.
— Every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. we meet on Zoom for Coffee Hour. Come join us for conversation! Click here to join us.
— Every first and third Sunday, we will be celebrating the Lord’s Table via Zoom. On the first and third Sundays of the month—like usual—we will use the beginning of our weekly Zoom Coffee Hour at 11:30 a.m. to take the bread and cup together.
— We have started a Prayer Shawl ministry, and have several shawls ready to go. If you are in need of some extra comfort right now, please do not hesitate to contact Pastor John, Melissa, or the church office, and we will get a hand-made shawl to you. If you are interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Melissa.
— On Facebook and Instagram, we are posting Bible readings and prayer every evening, Tuesday through Sunday.
— If you are in need of food or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the church.
Often in these times, I have turned to the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah and his word to the exiles in Babylon: “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7). In the past few months, many of us have felt displaced and have had our lives and routines upended. But God has not abandoned us, nor God abandoned our world. We continue to love and serve the Lord, wherever we are, seeking to do the best we can for the world around us—all in Jesus’ name.
Grace and Peace,
The FBC Coronavirus Response Team
Pastor John Withum, Senior Pastor
Melissa Meilinger, Director of Worship and Youth Ministry

Marja Yingling, Christian Education Chairperson
Richard and Shari Secor, Diaconate Co-Chairpersons
